Pigskin Previews (Week 1)

Published: Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014 2:16 p.m. CST

Morrison (0-0) at Princeton (0-0)

Gametime: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

BCR insider: The Tigers would like to snap a two-plus year losing skid and there’s no time like the present. They’ve had a good offseason and are ready to roll with returning starters at key skill positions ... Morrison had its own struggles last year. After defeating the Tigers in the season opener, they won only one other game and dropped their last six games of the season. The Mustangs may enter Friday’s game minus some key personnel due to injury and suspension... The Mustangs claimed a 46-0 victory last year in a game that stretched from Friday night into Saturday due to thunderstorms that suspended play. It was their first meeting in 40 years, tying the all-time series which dates back to 1945. ... All fans will be sitting on one side in the new bleachers at Bryant Field this year. There will now be two entrances to the field, one off Crown Street and the other at the corner of Homer Street and Central Avenue. .... PHS will be dedicating the new David Van Drew Memorial Press Box between games. ... Morrison coach Cory Bielema is a cousin to Arkansas coach Bret Bielema.

Last year: Morrison 46-0.

All-time series: Tied 4-4.

Radio: WZOE 1490 AM.

Amboy/LaMoille (0-0) at St. Bede (0-0)

Gametime: 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Bede Academy.

BCR insider: The Bruins met a Clippers team in a rebuilding mode last year. This year, the Clippers should be on the rebound. They have not had back-to-back losing seasons since 2002-03. ... While the Bruins lost all-around talent Michael Bellino, they return much of their offensive firepower in seniors QB Jack Brady and RB Justin Shaw. While the numbers are down in the Academy camp, the talent is not, which should make another solid season and is shaping up to be the final season for longtime coach John Bellino (35 years).

Last year: SBA 41-6.

All-time series: SBA 12-8.

Radio: WSOG 88.1 FM; WRCV 101.7 FM.
