Iowa man dies in motorcycle crash

Excessive speeds apparently took driver off road

MINERAL — The Bureau County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that happened on 100 East Street near 1400 North Avenue in Mineral Township around 4 p.m. April 17.

According to Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff, the driver was Michael Brodersen, 25, of Bettendorf, Iowa. Brodersen was negotiating a right hand curve while heading northbound when he left the roadway on the opposite side of the road, apparently due to excessive speeds.

The motorcycle continued more than 300 feet through an unplowed field before becoming airborne at a wide drainage ditch. Brodersen and the motorcycle both traveled 46 feet through the air before landing on the opposite side of the drainage ditch, where the bike came to rest. Brodersen was thrown another 58 feet through the air before coming to a rest.

Mineral First Responders and Sheffield Ambulance responded to the scene and called Wamhoff. Brodersen was pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, at the scene of the accident. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office responded as well.
