BV night at the races

MANLIUS — The Bureau Valley Sports Boosters will hold its “Night at the Races” Feb. 11, 2017. Cost is $20 per ticket, which includes dinner. See a Sports Booster for information.

L-P raffle

LASALLE — The LaSalle-Peru boys basketball team is holding a Chicago Bulls Raffle. Grand prize includes four courtside seats to the April 1, 2017, Bulls game against the Atlanta Hawks. Penguin Plunge

OTTAWA — The Make A Wish Foundation of Illinois will have a Penguin Plunge at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Heritage Harbor at the Ottawa Marina in Ottawa. The Make A Wish Foundation’s goals for 2017 are to raise more than $100,000. To help dreams come true, pre-register at

Fat 50

MCNABB — The “Fat 50” 50-kilometer run will be Saturday, Jan. 14, with a start time of 9 a.m. The race will start and finish at Putnam County Junior High School in McNabb. The slightly rolling course is a one-mile loop to the east followed by three out and back runs of 10 miles. Showers are available. Pizza will be served following the run.

Coaches Clinic

MANLIUS — The Bureau County Track and Cross Country Coaches Clinic is set for Feb. 4, 2017. Clinic cost is $75 if mailed by Jan. 26, 2017, and $95 after or at the door.

Registration will be held from 8-8:50 a.m. with the clinic sessions to start at 9 a.m. There are 10 scheduled speakers.

Trivia night

ROCK ISLAND – Join The Arc of the Quad Cities Area for Trivia Night complete with interactive and themed categories Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., game at 6:30 p.m. located at Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 25 Union Hall, 4600 46th Avenue, Rock Island.

Thundercat wrestling

GRANVILLE — Practices for the Thundercat Wrestling Club, for grades 5-8, will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Putnam County High School Media Center.

Total fee for the club is $85. This covers the IKWF $45 membership, $10 USA Wrestling membership, shirt and singlet. Other fees are shoes $25-$50 (Google Wrestling Gear); headgear $15; and tournament fees are $15-$20 per tournament to the hosting club.

Competitive tournaments (carpool available) are Jan. 8, 2017, Morton Tournament; Jan. 22, Pekin Tournament; Jan. 29, LaSalle Tournament; Feb. 5, Mendota Tournament; Feb. 12, Martinez Tournament (Hinsdale); March 4, regionals (LaSalle-Peru); March 11, sectionals (Rock Island); and March 16-18 state (Rockford). Other tournaments are available.

SPRINGFIELD — Archery Deer and Fall Turkey Permits: Illinois Archery Deer and Illinois Archery Fall Turkey seasons are open through Jan. 15, 2017. Permits are available over-the-counter at DNR direct license and permit vendors. Find a vendor near you at this link:

Archery, Firearm, Muzzleloader, and Late-Winter/CWD Seasons CWD Sampling: Deer hunters statewide are encouraged to allow samples to be taken for chronic wasting disease (CWD) sampling from adult deer they harvest. Check the IDNR website at this link for locations that are serving as CWD sampling stations, taking samples from entire deer or deer heads through Jan. 15, 2017:

Youth Goose Hunt: Youth interested in participating in the annual Central Illinois Youth Goose Hunt, sponsored by the IDNR, can register now for the hunt, which is scheduled for Jan. 15-16, 2017. To register for a drawing to participate in the hunt, phone 217-785-8060 by the registration deadline of Friday, Dec. 30. The youth goose hunt will be held at private waterfowl hunting clubs in the Canton area in Fulton County. A lottery drawing involving all youth who phone in to register will be conducted on Jan. 3, 2017, and youth hunters selected will be notified by mail. First-time applicants will be given a priority over previous participants in the drawing. The hunt is open to youngsters ages 10-15 at the time of the hunt.

Spring turkey applications: Hunters may now apply for the second lottery for 2017 Illinois Spring Wild Turkey Season permits. The application deadline for the second lottery for 2017 spring turkey permits is Jan. 11, 2017. Go to the IDNR website for more information at
