2016-17 All-BCR Boys Basketball First Team

Jon Dose • St. Bede Academy

School: St. Bede.

Year: Senior.

Height/Pos: 6-1/G.

At a glance: St. Bede’s opponents got a good dose of the St. Bede senior guard night in and night out. Dose averaged 16.4 points to lead the Bruins in scoring this year and chipped in 2.0 assists per game. He was the top scorer in the Class of 2017 for area players with 925 career points. He was a First Team Three Rivers All-Conference selection.

Owen Landwehr • Annawan High School

School: Annawan.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-3/G.

At a glance: The Man from Mineral was the top gun among Bureau County players averaging an area-best 18.3 ppg. He also averaged 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals for the regional champion Braves. Landwehr cracked the 1,000-point club this season, now with 1,095 career points. He was a First Team Lincoln Trail All-Conference selection.

Rahim McKee-Strong

• DePue High School

School: DePue.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-7/C

At a glance: The Giant of all the Little Giants came up big in the post this season for DePue. McKee-Strong was the top rebounder in the area, pulling down 14.3 caroms a night. He also averaged 11.3 points and 2.0 blocks per game. He was a Second Team Tri-County All-Conference selection and named to the AP Honorable Mention All-State.

Rafa Puga • DePue High School

School: DePue.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 5-11/G.

At a glance: The flashy guard seemed to energize the Little Giants when they needed it most on their way to their regional championship run. He led DePue in scoring (13.9 ppg) and averaged an area-best 6.4 assists and 3.9 steals. Puga ranks first among the Class of 2018 with 887 career points. He was a First Team Tri-County All-Conference selection.

Colby Robbins • Princeton High School

School: Princeton.

Year: Senior.

Height/Pos: 6-2/G.

At a glance: Robbins was a bird who could shoot. He led the Tigers in scoring with a 16.0 ppg clip and proved to be a big 3-point threat (48 3s). He had season highs of 29 against Kewanee and netted 26 points against L-P while incredibly scoring the Tigers’ first 21 points of the game. He also led PHS in free throw percentage (75 percent) and 3-point percentage (40 percent) while shooting 49 percent overall from the floor. He was an unanimous First Team Three Rivers All-Conference selection.

SECOND TEAM

Jackson Funfsinn

School: St. Bede.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-2/G.

At a glance: The junior guard could score (12.6 ppg) and dish it out with a team-high 2.9 assists per game. The sharp-shooter was a state qualifier in the 3-Point Contest. He was a Second Team Three Rivers All-Conference selection.

Eddie Moreno

School: DePue.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-0/G.

At a glance: Another key contributor to the Little Giants’ regional championship. The junior guard was the Little Giants’ second-leading scorer at 12.4 ppg. He was a Second Team Three Rivers All-Conference selection.

Josh Reinhardt

School: Princeton.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-2/G.

At a glance: The junior point guard missed some games late, but finished out as the Tigers’ leader in assists (3.2 apg) and steals (1.5 spg) and No. 2 scorer (13.2 ppg). He had a season-high 27 points against Byron. He received Honorable Mention Three Rivers All-Conference recognition.

Brant Vanaman

School: Hall.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-1/G.

At a glance: The top Red Devil in all-conference recognition, Vanaman received First Team Three Rivers East All-Conference honors. The junior guard averaged 8.8 ppg, led the Red Devils in scoring (5.8 rpg) and chipped in 1.8 assists per game.

Colton Youngren

School: Princeton.

Year: Senior.

Height/Pos: 6-6/C.

At a glance: The Tigers’ Man in the Middle was a formidable force inside, pulling down 8.1 rebounds a game and chipping in 12.1 ppg. He had a 27-point, 14-rebound breakout game against Chicago Hope and went for 21/15 against Mendota. He was a Second Team Three Rivers All-Conference selection.

THIRD TEAM

Alex Castelan

School: Hall.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 5-11/PG.

At a glance: The slick junior point guard led the Red Devils in scoring (11.8 ppg) and distributing (3.7 assists per game) as well as steals (1.7). Castelan received Honorable Mention Three Rivers All-Conference recognition.

Brady Debruhl

School: LaMoille/Ohio.

Year: Senior.

Height/Pos: 5-11/G.

At a glance: The senior guard from Ohio was the top gun for the Lions co-op, averaging 12.7 points per game. He also averaged 1.5 steals a game.

Kale Barnett

School: Bureau Valley.

Year: Sophomore.

Height/Pos: 6-1/G.

At a glance: The sophomore point guard was the Storm’s leading scorer (10.2 ppg) while handing out 3.1 assists per game. He received Honorable Mention Three Rivers All-Conference recognition.

Corbin Endress

School: Bureau Valley.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-3/F.

At a glance: The Storm forward averaged 9.1 points with 1.5 steals per game. He was top shooter in 3-point efficiency (51 percent) while shooting nearly 50 percent overall. He was a Second Team Three Rivers All-Conference selection.

Manny Winfert

School: DePue.

Year: Junior.

Height/Pos: 6-0/G.

At a glance: Winfert helped man the point guard position for the regional champion Little Giants. He averaged 7.6 points with 7.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He was a Third Team Tri-County All-Conference selection.
