SV City Bank to sponsor Colmone Classic

SPRING VALLEY — The 2017 Colmone Classic Tournament has been set. Now it has a tournament sponsor.

The Hall High School Board of Education and administration has announced the 2017 Colmone Classic Basketball Tournament in December will be sponsored by the Spring Valley City Bank.

The Colmone Classic will be expanding to 12 teams in December 2017 which was made possible, in part, by the support of the Spring Valley City Bank, Hall Superintendent Mike Struna said.

“We are proud to have the SVCB as our corporate sponsor,” Struna said.

The new 12-team format will include pool play for both the varsity and sophomore tourneys in which the teams will be divided into four pools with three teams in each pool.

New teams joining the field in 2017 include locals Princeton, Bureau Valley and St. Bede along with Wilmington. They join holdovers Hall, Fieldcrest, Kewanee, Ottawa Marquette, Mendota, Plano, Pontiac and Rock Falls.

The 2017 tourney will begin on Saturday, Dec. 9, with both varsity and sophomore tourney games being played and continue throughout the week until Saturday, Dec. 16, when varsity and sophomore champions will be crowned.

Rock Falls beat Kewanee 50-49 for the 2016 title.
