Women honored for life-saving efforts

PRINCETON — Kelly Sissel-Morris and Lauren Eckberg were recently honored for their actions during the Z Tour bike ride on July 15.

Bureau County EMA Director Keenan Campbell on Aug. 24 presented the women with Bureau County EMA Citizen Life Saving Awards at the Zearing Child Enrichment Center.

The award was created in 2017 to honor those citizens that go above and beyond to save a life.

Sissel-Morris was at Zearing Park before the ride and saw a rider that was choking. She performed the Heimlich maneuver and opened the rider’s airway.

Eckberg was driving home near Tiskilwa and discovered a rider with injuries on the route. Eckberg grabbed shirts from her car and made a makeshift bandage to control the bleeding. She notified Zearing command and the rider was transported to Perry Memorial Hospital by Tiskilwa EMS.

Both riders have fully recovered and are looking forward to the 2018 Z Tour bike ride.
