Ladd Village Board

The Ladd Village Board conducted the following business during its August meetings:

• Authorized Davis Concrete Correctors to repair and caulk portions of the east side of Main Street for the quoted price of $2,805.

• Reviewed proposals for playground fall protection at War Memorial Park and tabled a decision until the Sept. 12 meeting.

• Heard the roof at the Community Center has been patched. Quotes to replace the roof were to be reviewed at the Sept. 12 meeting.

• Heard the patching on East Cleveland Street has been completed.

• Decided to retain a small parcel of village property located at 218 E. Chestnut St.

• Received a request from a resident for a splash pad and reviewed cost and maintenance information for the village of Sheffield’s splash pad.

• Approved L.E. Myers pay request No. 5 of $48,115.83 for work completed on the east end electric upgrade project.

• Denied a request from the village of Arlington for mosquito spraying services.

• Filed a “no objection” response to the Bureau County Zoning Board on John Bartoli’s application for a variance to build a pole building.

• Heard the findings on the failure of the substation transformer that was struck by lightning during a storm on June 14-15.

• Accepted quotes from T & R Electric of $79,334 to rebuild the 7500kva transformer and $2,697 for new arresters.

• Tabled action on a fireworks ordinance to the Sept. 12 meeting.

• Discussed the vacation of a utility and drainage easement on the Colby Flanagan property. A JULIE locate will be ordered to determine if there are any utilities on the property prior to the vacation of the easement. Chamlin & Associates were directed to survey the property as the property pins could not be located following the sewer separation project.

• Heard new tires were ordered for a squad car through state bid.

• Approved the construction of a building over a village water line that was abandoned in 2005.

• Assigned the village’s current contract for residential trash collection with Illinois Valley Waste Services to Republic Services, effective Sept. 1.

• Approved a $50 donation to the Hall High School Devilettes for a trip to the National Dance Team Championship.

• Accepted a proposal of $5,674 from J.W. Ossola to replace a manhole and piping at the corner of Central and Locust streets near the Community Center.

• Took no action on a $1,000 proposal from United Systems Technology Inc. to reconfigure the village’s General Ledger Chart of Accounts. The employees in the clerk’s office plan to do the work.

• Heard brush pickup will now be limited to the spring and fall collections and following severe storms. During the remainder of the year, Ladd residents are welcome to use the village’s brush pile to dispose of their branches.

• Heard village of Ladd text and email alerts are now available through the Bureau County Republican.

• Approved the payment of bills in the amount of $313,375.86.

• Heard the plan commission will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, to consider a request from William and Susan Cattani. They are seeking variances for a reduction in front and side yard setbacks for the construction of a building on their property at 218 E. Chestnut St.
