Spring Valley policeman fails to yield, causes injury accident

SPRING VALLEY — An accident involving a Spring Valley policeman resulted in the cop being cited for failure to yield at 8:19 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the corner of Dakota and Greenwood streets.

According to the report, a police vehicle driven by Matt Stank, 36, of Spring Valley was driving eastbound on Dakota Street and turned into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by Maria Escatel, 22, of DePue.

Stank was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital by 10/33 ambulance and treated and released. Escatel was also taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital by a private vehicle and treated and released. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Spring Valley Fire Department also responded to the scene. The Bureau County Sheriff’s Office was called to handle the accident.

Stank had been on routine patrol and was not responding to a call at the time of the accident.
