BCR Insider: With such a strong regional, including returning state place finisher PC, and perhaps 1A favorite Riverdale, playing at Spring Creek, which can be a pretty demanding course, especially the back 9, Hall coach Mason Kimberley said, “It will take a lower-than-normal score to make it to the next round.” ... Three Rivers Conference champion Riverdale is the defending regional champion at the same course last year and may be the top team in 1A. Senior ace Tyler Bussert was the individual medalist, shooting a 69. He went on to finish second at state. ... BV made a strong showing at conference and has played solid golf all season long, led by seniors Colton Novotny and Spencer Marquez, both averaging 79 in 18-hole tournaments. “The boys have been playing well this year. The nice thing about our team this year is that all our golfers have all contributed some nice scores this year,” BV coach Jack Gustafson said. ... Princeton coach Will Gross said the Tigers have been playing pretty well lately and should be able to be competitive with the rest of the field. We are focusing on keeping our mental focus and attitude in check to deal with the 18-hole grind.” The Tigers bunch up with six golfers averaging between 43-47, headed by senior Conner Alter (43) and freshman Dylan Gross (43.5). ... St. Bede senior Peyton Pyszka (3 times) and junior John Potthoff and Amboy-LaMoille senior Caleb Sarf (missed state by two strokes) are all returning sectional qualifiers. While it is a tough field, SBA coach Rich Cummings is hopeful the homecourse advantage will help his Bruins. ... Hall is led by junior Chance Resetich (44). ... PC is the defending sectional team champion, placing seventh at state, and bring back their top two state scorers in senior Caleb Dzierzynski and sophomore Ian Roach.
Advancement: Top three teams and top 10 individuals who aren’t already on an advancing team advance to the Rockford Christian Life Sectional.
Putnam County 1A girls
Where: Edgewood Park, McNabb.
When: Tuesday, 9 a.m.
Schools: Bureau Valley, *Earlville-Leland, *Galva, *Kewanee, Geneseo, Princeton, St. Bede, *Streator, *Stark County, Wethersfield (* do not field full squads).
BCR Insider: Geneseo is the No. 1 seed with PC and Princeton right behind for the other two qualifying spots. There are only six full teams so half of the field will advance. ... PHS coach Will Gross said the Tigresses are up for the challenge. “The girls should be very competitive in regards to competing for a top three team spot. We have been playing extremely well the past month. The girls have grinded on improving in their weak areas and have the motivation and drive to place themselves in a position to compete at a high level of golf,” he said. PHS junior Kelly VanDenBussche (47) is no longer a surprise after qualifying for sectional last year. She and classmate Kiley Schenck (50) both earned First Team All-Conference. ... Bureau Valley enters the mix with a full squad for the first time in five years with five freshmen. Coach David Lind said the regional meet “will be a great experience” for his young squad. ... Sophomore Andi Cattani (56) has taken over as the No. 1 golfer for St Bede. ... PC is led by Ali Ciucci (46.3) and Olivia Holmes (49). ... Kewanee sophomore Riley Hansen (8th) is a returning state medalist and regional champion.
