PERU — St. Bede homecoming will bring back record numbers of alumni as reunion classes representing 17 classes from 1942 to 2012 return home to the St. Bede campus Thursday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 8.
The parade and powder puff game will be Thursday and then Friday night the annual variety show will be held. Saturday morning after the Jim Lattin 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m., the St. Bede Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony at 10 a.m. will induct Greg Basalay ’65, Jack Donaldson ’67, Nicole Pozzi ’82 and the 1957 baseball team. Historically being inducted will be Edward “Jeff” Pfeffer ’05, Leroy Herrmann ’26 and the 1924 football team.
A three-generation family legacy will all be celebrating their reunions as 94-year-old Aloysius Kunkel ‘42 will join his son, Andy ’72, and grandson, Brad ‘02, as they join eight decades of alumni who will be coming home to celebrate their reunions with fellow classmates.
A lot of excitement has been added to the weekend for a new event called Bruins Jam, that will take place after the varsity football game until 10 p.m. Saturday night. The “Power at the Tower Tour” as it’s being called includes a lineup of eight performances featuring St. Bede alumni from the Class of 1964 through 2012. The complete lineup of performers can be found on the St. Bede website’s homecoming page.
Sunday will conclude with a new event coordinated by the St. Bede Alumni Association: the Bruins Brunch “spectatular” being held in the St. Bede rectory. Immediately following the 10 a.m. Mass and the induction of the Golden Bedan Class of 1967, brunch featuring a mimosa bar, will be served and is open to the public. The Alumni Association will make a special presentation during brunch honoring Dr. Lyle Micheli, MD ’58 as the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award.
All the details regarding homecoming 2017, including scheduled class reunion plans, can be found at the St. Bede website, www.st-bede.com, and the Saint Bede Academy Facebook page.
