BCR insider: The longtime rivals will clash for the 119th time, with PHS holding a 58-54-6 series lead dating back to the 1890s. In the present, the Tigers and Boilers are in a log jam for second place in the TRAC Mississippi behind unbeaten Hall. “Kewanee will be a huge game. There is a lot on the line in that it’s a rivalry game, senior night, battle for second place in the Mississippi, as well as playoff implications for both teams,” PHS coach Ryan Pearson said. “We definitely have to contain their athletes and not let them beat us with big plays. We did a great job of taking care of the little things last Friday night and to have success, we have to do much of the same this week. It should be a lot of fun.” The day’s events kick off at 5:30 a.m. from Bryant Field with WQAD Channel 8’s The Score pregame pep rally. ... PHS must win out to become playoff eligible with games remaining at Monmouth-Roseville and St. Bede. Kewanee is in better shape with three wins under its belt having games with M-R and St. Bede also remaining.

BCR insider: The Storm’s path to qualifying for the playoffs doesn’t become much easier with the Rockets coming to town. Rockridge, which was ranked No. 8 in last week’s 2A poll, has lost only to Newman, a game it led 15-0 before the Comets rallied to win 22-21. BV, which is receiving votes in the AP Poll, lost to Newman 55-6 last week. The Rockets have a one-point victory over Fulton (40-39). “They have many weapons offensively and are very well coached defensively and have playmakers on that side of the ball as well,” BV coach Joe Schmitt said. ... The Storm need to find one more win with Orion (5-1) and Morrison (3-3) remaining after Rockridge.

BCR Insider: The Bruins will welcome some new visitors to the academy for Saturday’s 2017 Homecoming contest. While the Bruins and Titans met in the first round of the 2013 playoffs, it will mark the Titans’ first visit to St. Bede. Mon-Rose joined the Three Rivers Conference this year for football only as the replacement for Amboy, which left the league in 2016. Mon-Rose previously played in the West Central. ... Both teams come in with identical 2-4 records overall and a 2-1 in league play. The winner will remain in second place in the TRAC Mississippi behind Hall.
