Lady Lions win LTC opener

The LaMoille-Ohio Lady Lions took their first step of making the elusive trip to the Little Ten Conference volleyball tournament finals, defeating host Indian Creek 25-18, 25-14 in opening round play Monday at Shabbona.

The second-seeded Lady Lions will take on No. 3 Somonauk at 7 p.m. Thursday, seeking to reach the LTC finals for the first time in 17 years. Somonauk defeated No. 6 Serena 25-19, 25-17.

“It was a good win for us. We certainly didn’t have our best start, but the team pulled together and found a way to win,” L-O coach Hallie Monroe said.

Lexi Loftus led the Lady Lions at the net with 10 kills while adding eight digs. Also making all-around contributions were Maddi Deery (6 points, 3 kills, 10 assists, 7 digs), Katie Anderson (12 points, 9 digs), Nya Ranel (2 aces, 8 points, 5 kills, 6 digs, 2 blocks) and Mariah Quest (5 points, 5 assists, 2 digs). Hannah Weeks added 16 digs.

Girls tennis

Princeton 5, Streator 0: The Tigresses beat the Lady Bulldogs by white wash at home Monday. Singles wins came from Emma Proffitt (6-0, 6-2) and Allison Blocki (6-1, 6-2). Doubles winners were MaryJeanne Brown and Maddie Eckard (6-2, 6-2), Julia Hochstatter and Kylee Mallery (6-3, 6-0), and Alexis Borg and Ali Borys (6-0, 6-1).

The Princeton F/S scored a 3-2 win behind Abby Dionne (8-5) and the doubles play of Maddie Devert and Emma Zelenik (8-0), and Julia Purvis and Mayah Carlson (8-4).
