The Henry County Sheriff's Office is investigating several cases of altered U.S. currency appearing at local businesses.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 50 years old, who walks with a limp. Photos of the suspect are available on the Facebook pages for the Woodhull and Monmouth Police Departments.
The counterfeit bills are actual currency altered to appear to be a larger denomination. Since they are actual bills they'll pass the pen test commonly used to detect counterfeit currency. Closer inspection will reveal irregularities in serial numbers and picture. Holding a bill up to a light source may also help detect the fake.
Neither the Bureau County nor the Putnam County Sheriff's Offices have received any reports of this activity within their respective jurisdictions.
If you have contact with this suspect, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately. All businesses are also asked to alert their employees to this activity and report anything of a suspicious nature to police, especially any vehicle information.
