Christkindl Markt on Saturday

PRINCETON — A Christkindl Markt (German Christmas market) will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Open Prairie UCC, 25 E. Marion St. (behind the Apollo Theater). This is held as part of the annual Princeton Main Street Christmas Walk. Unique hand-crafted gifts, international cookie bazaar, German Advent calendars, fair trade coffees and chocolates will be available for purchase, a traditional German lunch will be available. There will be a free children’s activity (gingerbread house-making). Admission is free. For more information, call 815-872-5150.

Model train fair and farm toy show

PRINCETON — The 11th annual Northern Illinois Model Train Fair and Farm Toy Show will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton. There will be all scales of trains and equipment and lots of different farm toys too. There will be a free train ride for the kids too. Adult admission is $4. For information, call 815-866-3606 for info after 4 p.m. This is also the Princeton Christmas Open House weekend.

Turtle fry in Manlius

MANLIUS — The Manlius Sportsmen’s Club will hold a turtle fry Friday, Nov. 17, with serving from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The donation is $12 per plate, with $5 refills on turtle. Baked beans and potato salad will be served. Carry-outs will be available.

Breakfast with Santa

PERU — St. Bede Academy will again hold Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Academy. The cost this year is $12 per person, which will include breakfast, a meeting with Santa, make and take crafts, movies, readers, carolers and a ride on the Starved Rock Christmas Trolley. For an additional $5, pictures with Santa will be available. This event is being sponsored by the St. Bede Bedan Club. Tickets can be purchased from any Bedan Club member or from Jeannie in the development office at St. Bede Academy. For information, call 815-223-3140.

Lighted Santa parade

SPRING VALLEY — Spring Valley’s Lighted Santa Parade will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25. The theme is “Christmas Stories.” The parade travels through downtown Spring Valley. Entries may be made by individuals, businesses or organizations. Santa will be in the city hall community room after the parade for those who’d like to visit. Vendor, craft show for Caleb

WYANET — A vendor and craft show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Wyanet VFW.

Bake and Christmas sale

PRINCETON — Friends of Strays No-Kill Shelter will host a bake and Christmas sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Prouty Building in Princeton. Home-baked goods and holiday items will be available. All proceeds will go to the animals at the shelter.

Meeting announced

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Agricultural Board and the Bureau County Fair Life Member meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in the exhibit hall at the Bureau County Fairgrounds, 811 W. Peru St. in Princeton. Elections will be held for officers and township representatives and the past fair will reviewed.

Book Carnival and Family Reading Night

SPRING VALLEY — The 2017 Book Carnival and Family Reading Night at JFK School in Spring Valley will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16. Early book fair sales will be from 5:30 to 6 p.m. A raffle will also be held.
