DIXON – The Lee County coroner was called to the scene of what the Lee County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed is an explosion that occurred around 9 a.m. Tuesday, when a natural gas pipeline was ruptured on a farm midway between Dixon and Franklin Grove.
The gas company was on scene Tuesday, and the state fire marshal’s office will be investigating, a department spokeswoman said. She did not know the name of the company.
State Route 38 between Nachusa and Robbins roads was closed, and police and fire crews from multiple agencies were on the scene.
No other information was being released as of midday Tuesday.
