OGLESBY — The Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall, Putnam Extension Unit will host a Beef Selection and Reproduction Management Seminar and dinner from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, on the Illinois Valley Community College campus. Advance registration is required.
Travis Meteer, Extension commercial agriculture educator and beef specialist, will present research-based information, and beef industry representatives will also cover timely topics.
The seminar will cover bull selection, using EPDs and physical traits in selection, and the importance of mineral nutrition and parasite control in a breeding herd.
Insight into heifer development and synchronization and the importance of genetic selection will be covered.
The program is sponsored by Vita-Ferm, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Zoetis 50K ABS, Illinois Angus Association, Illinois Simmental Association, and University of Illinois Extension.
The dinner meeting will start at 5:15 p.m. with registration and introductions. The dinner is included in the $10 registration fee that is payable at the door.
