PRINCETON — Joel David Sawitoski, 86, of Princeton passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, in Liberty Village of Princeton.
Joel was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Geneva to Joseph and Gertrude (Loveless) Sawitoski. He married Barbara Maurer on Aug. 24, 1957, in Spring Valley.
He was a Class of 1948 graduate of East High School in Aurora. He had served in the U.S. Air Force and had worked for Nicor for 35 years, where he had been plant accountant supervisor.
He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton and Woodworkers Unlimited, where he had served as treasurer. He was a life-long Cubs fan and an excellent bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sawitoski of Princeton; his children, Beth (Michael) Liebenow of Aurora, Nancy (Michael) Kruger of Waxahachie, Texas, and Joseph (Chris) Sawitoski of Montgomery, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Gilla of Florida and Susan Sisco of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Princeton with Father Daniel Gifford officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date in the Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday in the church.
