Thomas Rees

BRADFORD — Thomas Grant Rees, 80, of Bradford passed away at 8:12 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at his daughter’s home in Peoria.

He was born Sept. 15, 1937, in Peoria, the son of Charles Thomas and Ruth Richards (Gleam) Rees. He married Mary Rose Aspesi on June 30, 1963, in Carmel, Calif. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 1995.

He graduated from Bradford High School with the Class of 1955. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1959 and went back to school to earn his CPA.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961 and met his wife, Mary Rose, in Germany while she was teaching military students. He owned and operated C.T. Rees and Son Grain Elevator until 1981. Then became a CPA and worked for Vicki Miller, Aetna Insurance and Jackson Hewitt.

He served on the Bradford School Board, Leet Memorial Methodist Church Board and was clerk for the Osceola Township Board for 40 plus years. He attended all of his kids and grandkids sporting events.

Surviving are one son, Thomas (Rachel) Rees of Longmont, Colo.; three daughters, Cynthia (Kent) Vaughn of St. Joseph, Mich., Janice (David) Clope of Peoria and Susan (Rob) Berry of Princeton; 10 grandchildren, Autumn (Brandon) Streetman, Michael Rees and Alicia (Dutch)Warner, Olivia, Emma, Zoe and Charlie Vaughn, and Angela, Carlie and Jacob Bickett; and two sisters, Ann (Gene) Bartley South Bend, Ind., and Caroline Tecson of Riverside.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Leet Memorial Methodist Church in Bradford. A service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jan Ringenberg officiating. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery in rural Bradford.

Memorials may be directed to the Leet Memorial Methodist Church.
