Representation? Board hasn't listened to taxpayers

Years ago when I was on a school board, a lot of my responsibility was to oversee and manage the operation of the school district without micro-managing the day-to-day operations of the school; that job belongs to our professionals.

Likewise, a part of my responsibility as a representative, was to represent the wishes of the taxpayer when it came time for big decisions or tax-implicating decisions.

In 2015, this Bureau Valley School Board, as hard as they tried, could not agree on the next direction for our school. They decided to take it to the voters in the form of a survey.

Even though there was not a really clear directive from the voters on where or what to build for new buildings, one question was answered very clearly with 71 percent of the voters stating that we do NOT want junior high students at the Bureau Valley High School in Manlius.

Yet again, with a referendum in 2017 that would have put junior high students at the Bureau Valley High School in Manlius, a clear answer from the voters was “NO” with a 70 percent “no” vote.

Now, once again, this board (which is our representation) is trying with yet another referendum to put our junior high students at the Bureau Valley High School.

With all due respect for this board, my question to the taxpayers is: Who exactly is representing us? Please contact your board representative to make your voice heard!
