At Charleston

BCR insider: The Bureau Valley Storm will make a strong push for a team trophy in this weekend’s 1A State Meet. They are seeded to medal in five different events, three events in the top two, and seven of their eight events in the top 14. Freshman Kamryn Kolb is the No. 1 seed in long jump, having soared 18-2 to win the Rock Island sectional. She also made it down in the 200, seeded 22nd. The Storm also have two high-seeded relays with its 4x200 ranked No. 1 (1:46) and its 4x100 at No. 2 (49.9) by the narrowest of margins behind Milledgeville. BV senior Haley Weidner will end her career where she started it. She is ranked seventh in the 3200 and 13th in the 1600. “We hope we can match a lot of our sectional performances we had last week. State is always a completely different setting, so you never know how everyone will react, but I like our chances. Most all our kids have experienced state, so it will not be new to them, so that does play in our favor. We were lucky enough to have a lot of competition at our sectional, so all our performances were pushed,” BV coach Dale Donner said. ... Hall senior Kaelyn Hamalle is in position to medal in two events, ranked eighth in the triple jump and ninth in the 400. She finished ninth in the triple last year. St. Bede’s Kaelyn Condon (also in the long jump for the second straight year), Antonia Cattani, Anna Postula and Hallie McGuirre have made it in both the 4x100 (8th) and 4x200 relays. ... L-P senior Rachel Hickey was 2A state runner-up in 800 last year. Princeton did not qualify anyone in 2A.

BV coach Dale Donner says: “It should be a lot of fun! This is what we have been working for the whole season.”
