PERU — St. Bede senior Kaelyn Condon was awarded the Shirley and Dale Espel Memorial Scholarship on May 20,
This scholarship is awarded annually to three worthy high school seniors pursuing an area of service with consideration given to: academic achievement, Christian and community service, leadership and self-discipline.
Proceeds from The Closet, a resale shop run by Church Women United in Princeton, are used to fund the scholarship in honor of Shirley and her husband, Dale, for the countless hours of service they dedicated to The Closet throughout the years. Shirley once served as president for Church Woman United and was a key factor in the purchase of the building that The Closet is located in.
Kaelyn is the daughter of Michael and Christy Condon of Spring Valley and a graduate of John F. Kennedy Grade School. She will attend Illinois State University and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing, with a goal of becoming a nurse practitioner.
