MENDOTA — Edith L. Silfies, 84, of Mendota passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, at Liberty Village in Princeton.
Edith was born Oct. 22, 1933, to John and Margaret (Klinefelter) Hillman. She married the love of her life, William Silfies, on Jan. 14, 1951, in Spring Valley.
Edie had a full working career. She was a bookkeeper/clerk for The Mendota Reporter, and a bookkeeper for several local establishments, including Mendota Co-op, Comparon Chrysler Garage in LaSalle, Westclox Engineering Department and Accounting Department, both in Peru, and First State Bank in Ladd. She was also bookkeeper and part owner of Silfies Construction.
Edith was a devoted and active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she served in the Women's Circle and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill of Mendota; two sons, William (Lee) Silfies of Dyer, Ind., and Michael (Missy) Silfies of LaMoille; three daughters, Paula Kinkin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Diane (John) Wiesbrock of Waupaca, Wis., and Penny (Derek) Lusietto of Princeton; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth Hillman of Charlotte, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at noon Thursday, July 5, in St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota with the Rev. Jeff Chubb officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery in LaMoille. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon in the church.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Nicholas Himes, Anthony Lusietto, John, Josh and Matthew Silfies, and Andrew Wiesbrock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Liberty Village in Princeton.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota.
