Iowa man killed Sunday in I-80 rollover crash

Victim ejected from SUV; burning vehicle temporarily closes eastbound lanes

LADD — A Davenport, Iowa man was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred late Sunday afternoon on Interstate 80 westbound near mile marker 64, east of Ladd.

According to an Illinois State Police District 17 report, a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Rajak Singh Randhawa, 28, left the roadway for undetermined reasons and entered the left shoulder of the interstate.

Randhawa lost control of the vehicle, which then entered the center median and overturned multiple times.

Randhawa was ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest in the left lane of Interstate 80 eastbound and caught fire.

Randhawa was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the report.

All lanes of I-80 eastbound were closed for approximately 35 minutes to extinguish the vehicle fire. The scene was cleared by emergency personnel around 6:05 p.m.

Illinois State Police District 17 troopers were assisted at the scene by Bureau County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois Department of Transportation, Ladd Fire Department and 10-33 Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation by police and the Bureau County Coroner’s Office.
