Local author event scheduled for Aug. 11 in Ottawa

OTTAWA — Three writers and a singer will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the Open Table United Church of Christ, 910 Columbus St., Ottawa.

Local authors Debra R. Borys and Marydale Stewart will read excerpts from their newest novels, answer questions, and talk about their books and writing in general. Ottawa poet Paul Wheeler will host and read some of his work, and singer/songwriter Sam Barbour will perform.

Borys, of LaSalle, is the author of a “Street Stories Suspense” series based on her experiences as a volunteer among homeless youth in Chicago. Her new book, titled “Cry Baby Cry,” is the fourth in the series.

Stewart, of Spring Valley, is the author of three poetry collections, as well as “Leaves of the Linden Tree,” her new novel, which is a sequel to “The Wanderers.”

The event is free and open to the public.
