64th Raikes family reunion
UTICA — Descendants of James Monroe and Phoebe (Bailey) Raikes will celebrate and honor their 64th annual family reunion on Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Starved Rock State Park boat landing shelter in Utica. A potluck picnic-style dinner will be served at noon. Children and adult games, bingo, etc. will be provided. Family members are reminded to bring old photos and family memorabilia, along with any updated marriages, births, deaths and any other family history to be recorded. Veterans invited to ride in parade
PRINCETON — The Princeton Veterans Group has entered a float in the Homestead Festival parade and any veteran wishing to ride on the float should arrive at the corner of Main and Marquette at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday. There is enough seating for 12 veterans. There is plenty of help to aid any veteran onto the float.
Pancake breakfast in LaMoille
LAMOILLE — The LaMoille Lions Club will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Lions Club, 308 Howard St. in LaMoille. The menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham, toast, milk, juice and coffee. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for ages 5-10 and free for ages under 5. All proceeds will support the LaMoille High School junior class.
Hall Class of ‘78 plans reunion
SPRING VALLEY — The Hall High School Class of 1978 will hold its 40th reunion Saturday, Sept. 22, at The Coal Company in Cherry anytime between noon and 5 p.m. The bar and grill will be available and guests are welcome. If you are a past member of the class or know any members and would like to stop in feel free. It’s a casual event to catch up and reminisce.
Purvis will return to Princeton
PRINCETON — John Purvis will be doing another “Off the Beaten Path” program at the Princeton Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. He returns to rediscover the lost treasures of Illinois. This time he will talk about: World War II re-enactments, replications of an early colonial trading camp, area cemeteries and the Atlantic Arcade Museum. The program is free and all are welcome to attend.
GriefShare will meet Tuesday
PRINCETON — GriefShare, a support group for those who have lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, will begin meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 N. Main St. in Princeton. GriefShare is a video seminar series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements — video seminar with experts, support group discussion with focus, and personal study and reflection. The group will meet weekly. Ohio library will host program
OHIO — The Ohio Public Library will host the University of Illinois Extension for their program, “5 Ingredient Fix: 30 Minutes Meals Using 5 Ingredients,” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26. This program will feature meal ideas for that use five ingredients and take 30 minutes or less to prepare. There will be a sample meal that night to try out. Registration is needed and can be done by calling the library at 815-376-5422 or by stopping at the library.
