Bureau County Sheriff’s squad struck due to icy road conditions

PRINCETON — An occupied Bureau County Sheriff’s Office squad was struck in the rear by another vehicle around 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31 on Backbone Road, just west of Main Street, in Princeton.

Bureau County Sheriff Jim Reed stated in a press release that icy road conditions were a factor in the accident. The other vehicle had been driven by Robert Walton, 55, of Princeton. Deputy Randy Dean was sitting inside the squad when it was struck. He had the squad’s emergency lights activated and was waiting for a tow at the scene of a vehicle recovery. Walton and Dean were both checked by Princeton Fire and EMS at the scene and neither occupant was transported to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office.
