Elks Hoop Shoot

PRINCETON — The Princeton Elks Lodge annual Hoop Shoot Competition for ages 8-13 will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Logan Junior High School’s Pannebaker Gym.

The Hoop Shoot is a free-throw competition for boys and girls between the ages of 8-13 as of April 1. Admission is free and the winner of each gender/age group will have the opportunity to advance to district competition Jan. 20 in DeKalb. For more information, contact Eric May at 217-766-8497.

Hall hitting clinic

SPRING VALLEY — The 4th annual Hall hitting clinic featuring former professional and highly acclaimed hitting instructor, Mark Doran, will be Sunday, Jan. 27.

The first session is open to all area boys in grades 3-8 from 9 to 11 a.m. Session two is open to all area softball players in grades 3-8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each session will be capped at 25 entries with a $30 fee.

IVCC softball clinic

OGLESBY — Illinois Valley Community College’s softball team will host the 20th annual IVCC Eagles Softball Clinic Feb. 16 and 17 in the school gym.

Coaches and current players will offer softball instruction in hitting, bunting, fielding, throwing, base running and communication.

There are two sessions each day. On Saturday, participants in grades 2-4 will meet 8 to 10:30 a.m. Grades 5-8 meet 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Sunday, grades 2-4 meet 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with grades 5-8 meeting 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Cost is $40 per player and includes five hours of instruction and a T-shirt. If a player can only come one day, cost is $25.

All players should bring a glove and tennis shoes (no spikes or cleats allowed). If a player has her own bat, she is allowed to bring it. Please make sure all items have the player’s name on them for identification purposes.

Princeton Shootout set Feb. 23-24

PRINCETON — Princeton Tigers Athletic Boosters will be hosting the 26th annual Princeton Boys Shootout Feb. 23-24 at Princeton High School and Logan Junior High School.

Thirty-two teams from Bureau County, Quad Cities and the Peoria areas will be represented with the Grades 7-8 brackets on Saturday, Feb. 23 and the Grades 5-6 brackets on Sunday, Feb. 24. Tournament games will be scheduled between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. In addition, a 3-Point Shot and a Hot-Shot competition will also be held.

There will be one gate fee for all locations each day. Tournament T-shirts can be purchased at all admission gates. Entry deadline is Jan. 26. For more information, call or text 815-303-1812 or 815-791-2394.

Mendota 5K

MENDOTA – Holy Cross School is sponsoring its third annual Shamrock 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 9. Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. and the race will start at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross. The finish line is also at Holy Cross. Walkers will start immediately after the runners.

The entry fee is $25 by Feb. 25 and $30 between Feb. 26 and March 9. Participants who pre-register are guaranteed an official Shamrock 5K long sleeve T-shirt.

Awards will be presented to the first overall male and female runners in the 5K. In addition, first-, second- and third-place finishers in each age division for male and female will be awarded medals. Refreshments will be available after the race.

Entry forms are available at Holy Cross School or Holy Cross Church Vestibule, or sign-up online at www.runrace.net. A minimal fee applies for online registration.

Following the 5K, a Shamrock Dash for children 3-6 will take place at Holy Cross. The registration fee is $15 and participants entered by Feb. 25 are guaranteed a T-shirt.
