Easement request for trail is approved

Finance Committee to meet Tuesday

WALNUT — At its last meeting, the Walnut Village Board was approached by representatives of the Walnut Park District and the Blue Raider Foundation regarding the proposed trail and the prospect of the trail passing through a portion of the Walnut Cemetery.

Village Superintendent Carl Minks met with the park district representative and its engineer, Matt Hansen. The board had previously had questions regarding the slope and subsequent drainage onto cemetery property. The board was presented with copies of engineering drawings of the proposed trail through the cemetery.

Minks discussed the drawings with the board and answered questions. He said it is his belief that the proposed trail will not create problems in the cemetery and he feels comfortable supporting the park district and the Blue Raider Foundation in their desire for an easement for the trail through this property belonging to the village.

Any questions the board had regarding liability issues were also answered by Minks during a discussion he had with the village attorney, Rob LaSage. LaSage stated that if the village had any concern regarding liability, a simple agreement could be drawn up having the Walnut Park District assume all responsibility.

The board approved the proposed easement request.

Village Treasurer Autumn Wolf reminded members of the Finance Committee that there is a meeting of that committee scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the Village Meeting Room.
