Hjertstedt, Barnett lead White to victory

Basketball

OGLESBY — An area trio led the White boys to a 97-85 win in Saturday’s Illinois Valley All-Star game at IVCC.

Princeton’s Koel Hjertstedt led the White with 15 points while Bureau’s Valley Kale Barnett and Putnam County’s Kaleb Wright each added 13. Flanagan’s Jeremy Durdan chipped in 14 points.

Hjertstedt said it was a fun experience and enjoyed getting to play alongside Barnett rather than against him.

“It was interesting, actually, because we both are guards who need the ball to play but were willing to give it up for each other, which showed both our maturity,” he said.

Jakob Setchell, the all-time leading scorer at Serena, led the Purple team with 15 points.

The Purple team won the girls game 70-61. St. Bede’s Naomi Ochuba contributed 10 points and four rebounds to the victory. Ottawa’s Angelique Cowan was the top scorer with 16 points.

Saige Barnett led the White with 13 points with Hall’s Gabby Englehaupt adding 10 points and L-P’s Aubrie Roda nine.
