Viola Johnson

SHEFFIELD — Viola L Johnson, 84, of Princeton passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Perry Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.

Viola was born in Peoria on Dec. 17, 1934, to the late Orville and Viola (Gibbs) Pople. She was a graduate of Peoria High School, Class of 1953. She married the late George Johnson on March 13, 1976.

She helped her husband, George, with his construction work and was a waitress for most of her life. She worked for Walmart for more than 20 years before retirement.

Viola enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She loved making things for her grandchildren and trying to teach them her craft. She really enjoyed a simple life, and loved hanging out with her kids and grands. She was an excellent card player, especially pinochle. Viola loved animals and a few of her favorites were Casper and Reese’s.

She is survived by her four children, Anna Fritz, Chester (Margaret) Fritz, James (Sylvia) Fritz and Bella (Alan Williams) Fritz; six grandchildren, Scott, Jeff, Nancy, Christopher, Joshua and Jana; 13 great-grandchildren, Zackary, Justin, Felisha, Pyper, Dakota, Griffin, Dylan, Bella, Jena, William, Cole, Sawyer and George; and four siblings, Robert Pople, Mary Anne Weber, Susie Carlyle and Ethel Bermes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Johnson (Nov. 24, 2006); and one brother, Steven Pople.

The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date and time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to your local humane society or animal shelter.
