PRINCETON — Velma J. Yepsen, 89, of Princeton died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.
Born March 30, 1930, in Kasbeer to William Edward and Edith A. (Sneed) Grant, she married Roger Yepsen May 26, 1949, in Piggott, Ark.
She was a 1948 graduate of Princeton High School. She had worked at the Mushroom Farm in rural Princeton, as well as cooking and baking for various restaurants, including the Ranch House.
Survivors include her children, Valerie (Gary) Griffin of Oglesby and Jerry (Mary) Yepsen of Princeton; six grandchildren, Heather Shue, Bruce and Roger Rickels, Beth Croysdill, Christopher Yepsen and Billy Blair; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in 1972; her son, Thomas Yepsen, and her daughter, Brenda Blair, both in June of 2018; two grandsons, Timothy Blair and Brian Lee Rickels; a granddaughter, Christina Marie Rickels; two sisters, Margaret E. Wall and Vern Lloyd; a brother, George A. Grant; and her half brother, Clarence Grant.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley with Deacon John Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton. Visitation will be prior to the services, from 9 to 10 a.m., at the funeral home.
