PRINCETON — Jason Smith will be the next head boys basketball coach at Princeton High School.
According to numerous sources, the BCR has learned that Smith has accepted the boys basketball position at PHS and is expected to be approved for hire at the May 22 school board meeting.
This was first reported in Saturday's BCR.
Smith has been an assistant coach at Bureau Valley. He took over in head coach Jason Marquis’ absence during the 2017-18 season, leading the Storm to a sectional finals appearance and a 27-5 record.
He was named as the BCR's Coach of the Year.
Smith could not be reached for comment.
Bureau Valley players were informed last week that Smith would not be returning to coach next year.
Smith will replace Kevin Howard, who was dismissed after one season.
Howard has informed the BCR he has contacted the Illinois Attorney General's Office in regards to the school board's potential violations of the Open Meetings Act during the April 24 meeting in which action was taken on his dismissal.
The IAG has requested further information from the PHS school board, according to the email Howard received from the IAG's office.
