Red Devils, Tigresses win

Wednesday sports roundup

The Hall Red Devils scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and made them stand up for an 8-5 win over rival Princeton in 2A regional semifinal play at Kirby Park in Spring Valley Wednesday.

Ty Rybarczyk hit a three-run homer over the left-field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Red Devils went out to an 8-2 lead.

The Tigers rallied for three runs in the sixth inning with a two-run double by freshman Bennett Sierens and a squeeze bunt by Noah Atkinson to close within 8-5. The Tigers lost a man stealing and Hall pitcher Jimmy DeAngelo got a strikeout to escape further trouble.

Rybarczyk came on in relief in the seventh, striking out the side for the save.

Payton Plym had three hits and DeAngelo two for the Red Devils.


Princeton 6, Alleman 0: The Tigresses scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to to put the regional semifinal away Wednesday in Moline.

The Tigresses got RBI hits by Hannah Muehlschlegel, McKenzie Hecht and Katie Bates and a sac fly by Abby Peterson in the sixth.

Kendra Cain drove in a run with a hit in the fifth to break a scoreless tie.

Bates went the distance for the win.

PHS (14-8) advances to the regional championship at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Alleman Sports Complex.

PHS has never won a regional title in school history.

Boys track

Plano 2A Sectional: The Princeton Tigers qualified three athletes for the state meet in sectional competition at Plano High School Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Connor Workman advanced in the triple jump, placing second (44-1) and long jump, placing third (21-10).

Senior Eli Grundman advanced in the pole vault by hitting the qualifying standard of 13 feet and classmate Kyle Degutis made it in the shot put with a qualifier of 50-3.
