Manor Court of Princeton awarded IHCA award

SPRINGFIELD — The winners of the 2019 Illinois Health Care Association Staff and Specialty Awards were announced during National Skilled Nursing Care Week, formerly National Nursing Home Week.

The Staff and Specialty Awards, part of IHCA’s Excellence Awards Program, honor the hard work and dedication of long-term care center staff, as well as the specialty programming put into place for the benefit of residents.

Manor Court of Princeton was awarded the 2019 Media Event of the Year Award for the local news coverage of their annual Veterans Day luncheon event.

Each year, Manor Court of Princeton hosts a celebratory luncheon to honor the U.S. veterans living in their facility. For this special event, Manor Court pulls out all the stops — each resident, and their guest, is treated to a steak meal, and singers sing patriotic songs throughout the program. In addition, the veterans each receive a certificate recognizing their service, and other local veterans often assist with the presentations.

For the 2018 event, the Quilts of Valor Foundation surprised World War II veterans at the center with a handmade quilt from their organization, honoring them for their commitment to our country. A local television news station was on hand that day, filming the entire event and even interviewing some of the veterans afterward. The event also garnered some attention in print as well.

“Our goal is to make each of our veterans feel appreciated,” Lynn Olds, Manor Court’s director of marketing and sales, said. “We want them to know it does not go unnoticed.”

“Staff at long-term care centers are devoted to providing the best care possible for the residents in their care each and every day,” said IHCA President Rhonda Luther. “This year’s award winners have shown that they have what it takes to truly make a difference in the lives of their residents. They deserve to be recognized for their efforts.”

“We are so proud to be able to honor these outstanding long-term care professionals and to have them involved in our association. We applaud their dedication and thank them for a job well done,” Executive Director Matt Hartman said.

More than 50 nominations were submitted in 2019 from long-term care centers around the state. Award recipients are nominated by their peers; winners are chosen by the IHCA Awards Task Force.

The Illinois Health Care Association is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 530 licensed and certified long-term care facilities and programs throughout the state. Its members are comprised of proprietary and non-proprietary facilities that represent skilled, intermediate, developmentally disabled, skilled pediatric, assisted living and sheltered levels of care. IHCA seeks to promote the highest standard of services in facilities and programs for the elderly and physically and mentally challenged.
