Foster Grandparent volunteers honored May 3 at banquet during Senior Corps week

ROCK FALLS — The Foster Grandparent program of Western Illinois presented five Presidential Achievement Awards at a special appreciation and recognition banquet May 3.

Recognized were Gigi Clifton, volunteer at Little Red School House in Rock Falls; Linda Guise, volunteer at Madison Elementary School in Dixon; Shirley Marsh, volunteer at Bright Beginnings in Dixon; Patti Presthus, volunteer at Jefferson Elementary School in Princeton; Diane Stutzke, volunteer at Franklin Elementary School in Sterling.

Presthus was also honored that day for five years as a Senior Corps member. The 10-year Senior Corps member was LaVaun Ashmore, volunteer at Milledgeville Elementary School, Milledgeville. A special plaque was awarded to Midge Murphy, volunteer at Dillon Elementary in Rock Falls, for her 20 years of service. Nine first-year Senior Corps members were honored for answering the call to service the community in the role of mentors, tutors, friends and role models in school-based classrooms.
