LADD — Gerald D. Devert, 78, of Ladd died Monday, July 1, 2019, at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford.

Gerald was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Spring Valley to Robert and Genevieve (Challenger) Devert. He married Geraldine Franco on April 11, 1964, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Peru.

Gerald was a graduate of Hall High School, Class of 1959, and was proud to be a member of the 1958 Hall football team that finished with an 8-1 record. He remained an avid Red Devil football fan his entire life. Gerald was also a die-hard Chicago White Sox fan and loved to play euchre.

Gerald served in the U.S. Army as a specialist 4th class, while being stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Ladd American Legion and the Ladd Moose, and he had been employed by LTV Steel in Hennepin.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Ladd; his children, Dean (Lisa) Devert of Springfield, Holly (Barry) Flanagan of Ladd and Jerry (Anne) Devert of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Carter and Jack Devert, Patrick, Neil and Conner Flanagan, and Kelly and Maddie Devert; and his sister, Donna Devert of Spring Valley.

Funeral services for Gerald will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley with Pastor Betty Delgado officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military rites provided by the Ladd American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9 a.m., at the funeral home.
