PRINCETON — The Bureau County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, July 25, in the Society library at 629 S. Main St. in Princeton.
The featured speaker will be Mary Tonozzi of Spring Valley. The topic of her presentation will be “From Middle EAST to the Midwest — The Lebanese in Bureau County.”
People of Lebanese nationality began arriving in this area in the late 1800s. Tonozzi will speak of these immigrants and the contributions they made to the area in their businesses and to the country in military service. Her information will come from oral interviews and written sources and will focus on family, faith, food and occupations.
Tonozzi has a master’s degree in European history, and taught at Illinois Valley Community College and St. Bede Academy.
The public is invited to attend this free program, which will begin at 7 p.m. No reservations are needed.
