MENDOTA — Marilyn Elaine Goetz, 90, of Mendota, formerly of LaMoille, died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Heritage Health in Mendota.
Marilyn was born Jan. 10, 1929, in LaMoille to Elmer and Irene (Portzen) Ross. She married Myron Goetz on Sept. 1, 1957, at the First Baptist Church of LaMoille.
Marilyn graduated from LaMoille High School and Illinois State University with a degree in home economics. She spent her career teaching at El Paso High School, Elgin Junior High School, LaMoille High School and Cherry Grade School. She was a member of the LaMoille Community School District board for 12 years and also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Marilyn was very involved in her church, singing in and leading the choir, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, and serving on various committees. Her other joys were gardening, cooking, baking, entertaining, attending musical events, traveling, genealogy, horses, and spending time with family.
She also enjoyed custom sewing and decorating cakes for friends, family and people in the community.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Myron; two daughters, Sarah of Peru and Susan of LaMoille; two brothers, Eldon Ross of LaMoille and Ronald (Jessie) Ross of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Margaret Ross of Mendota; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Darwin Ross; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Ross and Marian Hoffman; and two nephews, Scott Ross and Beryl Ross.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Clarion in LaMoille with Pastor Kevin Weeks and Pastor Jeff Schlesinger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota, and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church.
