Oglesby Elks announces September Teens of the Month

OGLESBY — The Oglesby Elks have announced the September Teens of the Month are Macy Bosnich and Samuel Maschmann.

Bosnich, a senior at St. Bede Academy, is the daughter of Melissa and Alan Bosnich of DePue. She is currently first in her class and has been active in basketball, volleyball, Student Council and Lectio Divina all four years. She is an Illinois State Scholar, and has been on the honor roll all four years.

She has also participated in InterAct Club, Heritage Club, Spanish Club, Foreign Language Club, yearbook staff, prom committee, softball, track and chorus. She was also an ambassador. She has received a Citizenship Award, English Award, Chemistry Award and AP History Award. She was named all-conference academic for basketball and volleyball and Most Improved in track and basketball. For volleyball, she was named NewsTribune all-area third team, Bureau County Republican second team, and best defensive player and most digs.

She competed on the WYSE team and placed first in computer science and third in chemistry, and at sectionals she placed second in computer science.

She volunteers in the community as well. She has helped at the DePue’s Men’s Club food stand and at the 5K race during the DePue boat races, and also helped at the Hall Township Food Pantry. She went with other St, Bede students to Kentucky on a mission trip her junior year, and has helped with St. Bede’s annual auction, basketball camp and volleyball camp.

She plans to attend a university and major in neuroscience, and then attend medical school to become a doctor.

Maschmann, a senior at St. Bede Academy, is the son of Scott and Jennifer Maschmann of Peru. He is currently third in his class and is an Illinois State Scholar. He has also been busy with football, Scholastic Bowl and the Bass Fishing Club all four years, and has been on the honor roll his freshman through junior years.

He has also participated in wrestling, choir, Venturing Club and Scholastic Bowl. He has also been a Student Ambassador. He has received the Math Award, Spanish Award and World History Award. He competed on the WYSE team and placed third in English individually while the team won the team championship in regionals and sectionals.

He volunteered at the youth football camp, and was a counselor at the Echo Bluffs camp.

After high school, he plans to attend a four-year university to study computer science and engineering. After college, he would like to find a job as a software engineer.
