Veterans honored on an unusually cold day
PRINCETON — Snowfall and a cold, biting wind from the north didn’t stop Princeton veterans from holding their Veterans Day services outdoors Monday morning around the 11th hour of the day. The ceremony was held in Veterans Park, across from Princeton City Hall, and featured keynote veteran speakers, including state Rep. Dan Swanson, a retired lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Army.
While the freezing weather conditions were less than desirable, Swanson helped put things in perspective by sharing that his first sergeant used to remind grumbling troops of the soldiers in the Battle of the Bulge (a World War II battle in Europe that took place during winter conditions from Dec. 16, 1944, to Jan. 25, 1945).
“They didn’t have any option other than to pull the trigger and fight the war,” he said.
