Heritage Tractor Adventure beginsBy Barb Kromphardtbkromphardt@bcrnews.comOn Monday, vintage tractors will head toward LaSalle and Peru as part of the sixth annual Heritage Tractor Adventure. More than 320 vintage tractors are expected to take part in the three-day event, which will travel from Morris to Ottawa and Streator, to Peru and Mendota, and then back to Morris. The tour will begin at the Grundy County Fairgrounds in Morris on Monday, and is expected to arrive in LaSalle about 2:30 p.m., and follow along the riverfront west on Brunner, Canal, First and Water streets, entering downtown Peru at West Street. The caravan will travel west on Route 6 for three blocks, turn north on Peoria Street and arrive at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport on Plank Road about 4:30 p.m. The tractors will head north on Tuesday to Mendota. As much as possible, the route will follow the defunct Illinois-Michigan Canal that inspired the 150-mile ride. The Heritage Tractor Adventure combines vintage farm tractors and displays with a historic ride, entertainment, great food and camaraderie. WGN-720 AM’s own farm reporter, Max Armstrong, an avid collector himself, will be setting off on the adventure. Spectators are invited to watch the tractors at travel or at rest along the route.
