PHS announces top 10 students for 2006-2007

PRINCETON — Princeton High School announced its top 10 students for the 2006-2007 school year.

Adam Hartz, Brooke Jensen, Katelyn Mansfield, Ali Marti, Sarah Rayfield, Andrew Schmeck and Jenna Zehr were named valedictorians of the class, while Ethan Smith was the salutatorian. Finishing out the top 10 were Debbie Hartsough and Emily Kauffman.

Hartz is the son of David and Anne Hartz of Princeton. During high school he was involved in football, basketball, track and field, Scholastic Bowl, National Honor Society and German Club. He was named a National Merit Scholarship finalist, Illinois State Scholar, National Society of High School Scholars, Notre Dame Scholar (University of Notre Dame) and CBS4 Best of Class, and received the USAA National Mathematics Award. He plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to major in electrical engineering and computer science.

Jensen is the daughter of Scott and Valerie Jensen of Tiskilwa. She has been involved in basketball, volleyball, Corporation Show Choir, Concert Choir and National Honor Society. She also plays the piano and is an accompanist. She was named an Illinois State Scholar, to the high honor roll, the News Tribune academic team, and the all-academic basketball and volleyball teams. She was a Notre Dame Club Princeton representative and received the Keith Schultz Memorial Award. She will attend Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., playing on the girls’ basketball team.

Mansfield is the daughter of Don and Joyce Mansfield of Princeton. During high school she participated in basketball, Student Council, Concert Choir, Ladies Ensemble and the Star Spangled Singers. She was named to the high honor roll and received the Sportsmanship Award. She will attend Illinois Valley Community College for two years and then transfer to a four-year school to complete a major in English.

Marti is the daughter of Jill and Andy Marti of Princeton. During high school she was involved in cross country, track, yearbook, choir, band and small ensembles. She was named an Elks Teen of the Month and was a three-time cross country MVP. She received the Keith Schultz Memorial Award and was recognized for IHSA academic achievement. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was named to the News Tribune all-academic team. She will attend Truman State University, majoring in visual communications and minoring in advertising.
