The summer golf season is just heating up.

The big events, like Sunday’s Jimmy D Outing at Spring Creek and Seneca’s Oak Ridge Golf Club, and the Harry Dall Open on July 15 at Hidden Lake are among the rites of summer.

This year’s Jimmy D will mark the 25th anniversary of raising funds to support the DeAngelo Cancer Unit at St. Margaret’s Hospital in memory of its namesake, Jimmy DeAngelo.

Three hundred some golfers are signed up to play in this year’s outing at the two courses and approximately 7,500 have played over the past 24 years. See the front page story in today’s BCR for more of the tournament’s history.

They are expecting a big turnout of golfers for the Harry Dall. This year’s recipient is the family of Nancy Olds-Bohm, a longtime player in the tournament, who passed away this spring after a battle with breast cancer.

Another date to circle on your golf calendar is Illinois Valley Women’s Tournament on Aug. 12 at Edgewood.

Here’s a rundown of events at area courses.

Spring Creek, Spring Valley: Jimmy D on Sunday, Mautino Outing on Aug. 23, Country Companies Junior Tournament on July 30, Illinois Valley Junior championship on Aug. 6, the Wal-Mart Children Miracle Network Outing on Aug. 13-14, the Hall Athletic Parent’s Club on Sept. 8 and the SV Walleye Club Outing on Sept. 15.

Wyaton Hills, Princeton: Couples Tournament on July 29, Optimist Junior Golf on Aug. 3, the North End Open on Aug. 5, Junior League Tournament on Aug. 6, Moose Club on Aug. 8, Wyaton Course Tournament on Aug. 18-19 and the Jensen Outing for cancer research on Sept. 7.

Hidden Lake, Sheffield: Mixed Glow Ball on July 20, Mixed Calcutta on July 22, Over 40 tournament on July 29, Ladies Guest Day on Aug. 1, Mixed Glow Ball on Aug. 10, Men’s League championship on Aug. 18-19 (rain dates Aug. 25-26), Ladies 2-Ball, on Aug. 26, Bradford Reunion on Sept. 1, Labor Day Mixed Scramble on Sept. 3 and Over 50 Tournament on Sept. 4.

Green River, Walnut: Nancy Olds-Bohm Memorial Scramble on Sunday, Senior Outing on Monday, Men’s Club championship on July 14-15, Men’s Club championship July 21, youth tournament on July 22, Don Watson Tournament July 28, Mixed Best Ball July 29, Rock River men’s tournament, Men’s Senior Tournament on Aug. 12 and Rock River Women’s Tournament on Aug. 18.

Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton: A course official said there are no events planned with the golf course up for sale.

Hole-in-one: Ron Shemwell aces the No. 7 hole on June 14 at Wyaton Hills with his 9 iron, witnessed by Gary Lucas.

Women’s leagues: Sally Riley had low gross 41, Janice Miller low net 43 and Kathy Rakestraw low putts 13 in the Hidden Lake Ladies Memorial Tournament. Irene Marciniak and Cheryl Michlig each birdied No. 15. ... At Hunter’s Ridge, Lynn Farley won low gross and Lois Beaber took low net. ... At Wyaton Hills, Anna Flaig (47) and Carolyn Barkley (48) led in low gross and Dorothy Oaks took low net (31). Top golfers in Monday’s Ladies Golf at Wyaton Hills subtract putts play of the day were Anna Flaig (Class A), Barb Brumbaugh (Class B) and Dorothy Oaks (Class C).
