So you want to be a wizard?By Dixie SchroederBCR Correspondent“I can teach you to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death.” Professor Severus Snape, as well as the rest of the Hogwart’s staff, will be on hand Friday for the annual Festival 9 3/4 Harry Potter Event. A celebration of all things Harry Potter, Festival 9 3/4 features a street full of delightful store fronts and events from the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. One of the favorite stops of Festival 9 3/4 is the Matson Public Library. This year it will close on Friday at 4 p.m. When it reopens at 6 p.m., in its place will be the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Besides the school, there will also be the Hogwarts Academy Annex, otherwise known as the Bureau County Historical Museum, or the Bryant House Building, directly across the street. These two magical locations will be the sites of 24 classes in magic, and each class can hold 30 students. At Hogwarts, students will be able to take a Potions Class with Professor Snape or a Divination class with Professor Trelawney. These classes run 30 minutes each and are scheduled for 6 p.m., 6:45 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Professor McGonagall’s Transfiguration class will run at 6:15 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. At the Hogwart’s Academy Annex, potential students can take Professor Flitwick’s Charms class, Professor Sprout’s Herbology class, or Professor Binns’ History of Magic class at 6:15 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets for all classes will be available at the library from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Friday. Remaining tickets will be again offered at 5 p.m. outside on the steps of the library. Tickets are free, and all tickets will be given away on a first come, first serve basis. There are no reserving tickets for this event. The library is currently having a contest to see which two characters will be eliminated in the seventh and final book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. Potential Hogwarts students as well as other library patrons can guess which two characters will be killed off at the Main Desk of the library from now until 4 p.m. on Friday. On Aug. 1, in the new Matson Public Library location, the first person drawn who correctly guessed will receive a Sorting Hat, which is currently on display at the library’s main display case. |
