It was a night for big servers for area volleyball teams — in particular Hall’s Erin Polte, Bureau Valley’s Danielle Hewitt, LaMoille’s Hallie May and Annawan’s Brooke Buresh. At Kewanee — Polte had a big hand in the Hall Lady Devils 25-14, 25-21 win at Kewanee, Thursday. The junior setter set up the Hall offense with 23 assists and took care of business at the service line with 14 points. Katelyn Hanson picked up 11 digs with Mickey Victor (7 kills), Kendall Rush (6) and Katelyn Raineri (4) leading the Hall attack at the net. Kewanee claimed both underclass matches. At Fulton — Hewitt was on fire, for the Storm, at the service line with 17 points and two aces as the Storm scored a come-from-behind 19-25, 25-19, 26-24 win over the Steamers. Hillary Monier added eight points and two aces and topped BV with nine kills. Tess Nelson delivered seven kills. Bureau Valley improved to 5-0 in the Three Rivers Conference, 9-7 overall. Fulton swept both underclass matches. At Kirkland — May served for 14 points and six aces as LaMoille took the long road to victory, overcoming a 25-11 setback, on the road, to top Hiawatha in the final two games 26-24, 25-18. May also had 17 assists and three kills. Hannah Stouffer chipped in with nine points and 14 digs, Laura Lovgren had 19 kills and Chelsea Gross 30 digs. LaMoille rallied for a 16-25, 25-17, 25-19 win in the F/S match. Mary Bartoli had 12 points and six kills, Raeann Coughlin had 13 points and seven digs and Haley Stouffer seven points and 14 assists. At Annawan — Buresh had seven aces along with six digs to lead Annawan to a 25-17, 25-14 win over Ohio. Lauren Spivey had five kills for the Bravettes while Cara Phalen (4) topped Ohio. Cross country At Chillicothe — Hall’s Mike Miroux (16:48) was the top finisher with his brother, Kyle (17:51), just two places behind, in third, in Thursday’s NCIC triangular. Their finish wasn’t enough to help the Red Devils catch up to the host Grey Ghosts (34) or Kewanee (46), finishing third with 49 points. Hall’s Scott Janusick (22:36), Dan Denis (22:36) and Brett Herrmann (22:36) formed a pack at 14-16. IVC claimed the top seven places for a perfect 15-point score to top Hall (50). Hall’s Lexi Fonderoli was the first runner not to be wearing the IVC maroon and gray, with an eighth-place 23:40, followed closely by Desiree Dhesse (23:41), Alyssa Turpen (23:44) and Daniela Acamovic (23:52) to complete a 8-11 pack. At Streator — Princeton used a 1-2 finish by twins Colin (16:04.3) and Hunter (16:04.7) Mickow and a 9-10 finish by Greg Musselman (20:18) and Ethan Krieger (22:12) to score 32 points to defeat the host Bulldogs (34) and LaSalle-Peru (56). PHS’ Melissa Zehr and Laura Nelson placed 5-6 in the girls’ race. Girls’ tennis At Sterling — Princeton claimed singles wins, but was shut out in doubles in a 5-4 loss at Sterling Newman, Thursday. PHS winners were Laura Krabill (6-3, 6-0), Evinne Dimmig(6-2, 6-2), Ashley Sconzo (6-3, 7-5) and Nora Weinfort (6-1, 6-3). Golf At Deer Valley — Princeton was runner-up to Rierdale (188) in Thurs-day’s Bureau Valley F/S Invite, led by Dylan Perry (94) and Calvin Baker (97). Alex Kinsley (100) topped the BV. |
