A week for perfection

By Kevin Hieronymuskhieronymus@bcrnews.com

Golf and bowling each have their own distinction of perfection. Golf has its holes-in-one; for bowling, its 300 games. Both sports saw a bit of perfection recently in the local sports scene.

Wyanet’s Randy Hanson, 37, bowled his fifth career 300 game on Sept. 3 at Crown Lanes, coming in the second game of the Sunday Mixed League.

“It was a clean game. Every strike was solid,” Crown Lanes’ Jim Basile said.

Hanson has two career  800 series, a feat that’s more rare than a 300 game, Basile says. Hanson’s wife, Cari, has also bowled a 300.

“He’s been an accomplished bowler since he started in junior leagues way back when,” Basile said.

At Spring Creek Golf Course, it was a case of another week another hole-in-one.

Fred Steele, who could own the title of club pro at the Spring Valley golf course with his many club championships, aced the 175-yard, No. 7 hole from the blue tees Thursday. It was witnessed by Dan Michels and Ron Liesse of Peru, Mark Pierson of Dalzell and Jim Hooley of Utica.

It was the sixth hole-in-one this season at Spring Creek.
