Rules of the Road

PRINCETON  — The Bureau County Senior Center will be holding a Rules of the Road course from1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday. This is a refresher course for those who will be taking their driver’s test. Dan Passini from the Division of the Illinois Drivers Services will be the instructor. No need to call for an appointment. There will be $2.00 charge for the class.

SBA open house

PERU — Area eighth-graders and their parents are invited to tour St. Bede Academy during the annual eighth-grade open house. Doors of the St. Bede Abbey Church will open at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Students will hear a skit about life as a St. Bede student while parents will hear a program highlighting the academic, athletics and extracurricular opportunities at St. Bede. Tours will be available after the programs.

Trip planned

PRINCETON — Perry Memorial Hospital’s 60 Plus group will go to Chicago at Christmastime with admission to the Museum of Science and Industry’s Christmas Around the World and Holiday Lights exhibit and a visit to Chicago’s Christkindlmarket on Nov. 26. HSTP meeting

PRINCETON — The first meeting of the Human Services Transportation Plan, Region 3, Transportation Committee will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Mendota Civic Center, 1901 Tom Merwin Drive in Mendota. Toy drive

PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will conduct its second annual Christmas toy drive from Nov. 5 to Dec. 10. Donations are being accepted for children from birth to 14 years old. Items may be dropped off at the post vestibule at 1549 W. Peru St., Princeton. The toys will be distributed to the less fortunate children in Bureau County so they can have a “Merry Christmas”.

MINERAL — Sign up dates for families who need help with Christmas gifts have been announced by Tri-County Detachment of the Marine Corps League commandant Don Fortmant. Children through age 13 are eligible. Proof of birthday date (birth certificate or Medicaid) and information about employment and unemployment income must be provided. Sign up dates in Mineral will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 23, at the American Legion Hall.

Distribution of toys will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Mineral American Legion.

Meeting set

PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary President Clara Pease will conduct the regular business meeting of Unit 125 at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the post home.

Proceeds from the recent ham supper will be learned. Members are reminded to bring in donations for the food pantry box, food/soup labels, Box Tops for Education and aluminum pull rings for these ongoing programs.

The American Legion Auxiliary’s second annual toy drive began Nov. 5 and will run through Dec. 10. New unwrapped toy donations can be dropped off at the post vestibule week days at 1549 W. Peru St., Princeton.

Post Commander L.J. Foley will open the Legion meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the post home. A report will be heard on the last Legion dance held at the post in October and upcoming events will be heard.

The American Legion building is available for upcoming family holiday gatherings, birthday/anniversary parties, smaller wedding receptions, funeral luncheons, rummage sales and fundraisers. For more information, call (815) 872-1171.
