Christmas dinner

Book club meeting

PRINCETON — The Green River Book Club will discuss “Two for the Dough” by Janet Evanovich at its Dec. 27 meeting. The club meets at 7 p.m. the last Thursday of each month at Green River Books in Princeton. New members or visitors are welcome to attend. For more information, call (815) 879-0049.

Can collecting

WALNUT — The Walnut Boy Scout troops will collect can goods from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday to fill baskets provided to needy families by the Walnut Community Food Baskets organization. The cans will be divided at the Walnut Community Bible Church that day.

Open house set

PRINCETON — Victory Worship Center in Princeton will sponsor an Angel Food Ministries open house from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Children’s Covenant gym at 502 Elm Place. Fundraiser planned

MANLIUS — The Bureau Valley High School Post Prom committee will host a Pizza Hut Buffet night from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Princeton Pizza Hut. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children 10 and under. All proceeds will go toward activities for after-prom.

Ongoing toy drive

PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton is conducting its second annual toy drive until Monday. New unwrapped toys for ages birth to 14 years, for both boys and girls, are needed and donations can be dropped off at the post home vestibule at 1549 W. Peru St. in Princeton. IVSO performance

LASALLE — The Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra will present “The Nutcracker” at 3 p.m. Sunday in the LaSalle-Peru High School Auditorium. This is a fully staged performance of Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet with dancers from Dance Center in LaSalle, Gray’s School of Dance in Ottawa and the Ottawa Dance Academy, plus additional holiday music. New Year’s Eve party

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Senior Center will host a New Year’s Eve party from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 31. The event will include games, music and food. Root Beer and hot cinnamon apple cider will be made. Seniors are asked to bring snacks, such as chips, dip, cheese and crackers. The center will provide a veggie tray. All Bureau County seniors are welcome to attend. The center is at 16 W. Marion St., Princeton.
