They're ready to get Thin to WinBy Donna Barkerdbarker@bcrnews.comPRINCETON — Three Bureau County families have been chosen to compete in the 2008 Thin to Win program. Bureau County Republican Editor Terri Simon said the names and photographs of the chosen families will be published in Tuesday’s BCR. “This is exciting,” said Bureau County Republican Editor Terri Simon. “Even though this is the third annual Thin to Win contest, every year is just as inspiring as the last. I think we’ve got three great families who truly want to change their lifestyles. I’m anxious for readers to meet them and follow their progress through the contest, which ends the latter part of March. “As always, the BCR will stay on top of their progress throughout the contest, and we’ll be posting their efforts every Thursday throughout the three-month Thin to Win event,” Simon continued. “While only one family will actually win, all three families will come out as winners too, since they’ll be learning some valuable information that will ultimately change their lives forever.” Beth Colmone, aquatics director for the Bureau County Metro Center, said 11 families submitted applications for the 2008 Thin to Win program. Each family had a 30-minute interview with Colmone and Tammie Erickson, recreation supervisor for the Metro Center. The field of 11 families was then narrowed down to six families by Colmone and Erickson. From there, the entire Metro Center staff reviewed the applications and interview notes and made the selection of the final three family groups. This year’s Thin to Win participants are enthusiastic and eager to start the three-month program, Colmone said. “All the people in these final three families wanted to do this for themselves, not just for each other. It was an individual commitment they were making,” Colmone said. “They each talked about wanting to find themselves again. It wasn’t just about losing 20 pounds. It was about getting healthy and getting more energy, about being there for their families.” Colmone said each family group will be teamed with a Metro Center personal trainer, who will design an individual exercise plan for each family member. The program begins Monday evening with a first official weigh-in and consultations with the personal trainers. Weekly progress reports will be published in the BCR.
