Track

Two area athletes set school records in indoor track.

Freshman Lauren Guna-wan of Neponset, a Bureau Valley product, was one of three St. Ambrose Univer-sity vaulters to break the school record in the pole vault by jumping 8-10, bettering the old mark by four inches. The St. Ambrose trio took first place in the Illinois College Snowbird to lead the Bees to their first ever indoor track win over 10 other teams.

“We knew coming into the season it would just be a matter of time before Lauren was in the record books,” SAU coach Dan Tomlin said. “She hasn't jumped her highest yet. She keeps raising the bar and working on perfecting her vault, and will be looking at 10-feet pretty soon.”

Gunawan also was part of the fourth-place 4x400 relay that scored four points to put SAU over the top, edging 130 Greenville 130-127.

Augustana junior Evan Holschbach of Princeton set a school record in the 300 meters for Augustana College with a second-place 36.03 in the Vikings’ Midwest Invitational. Senior John Thompson of Ladd qualified for the NCAA Division III national meet in the pole vault with a second-place 15-5.

• Other area athletes competing for Augie are juniors Jeff Scoma (hurdles), Alex Hartz (sprints) and senior Laura Luloff (mid-distance) of Princeton and senior Wes Jackson (pole vault) of Mineral. Princeton’s Jordan Inskeep is a sophomore hurdler for North Central College in Naperville and Scott Howard is a junior vaulter at Wisconsin-Parkside.
